Data entry table not editable in Access ADP - what do I need to do
I created a simple table for data entry where I can manually edit/add data
to the table in Enterprise Manager. But when I open the same table in an
Access it is locked. I cannot edit/add data to the table. Does anyone know
what I need to do to make the table editable in the Access ADP?
Thanks,
RichFigured it out. You need to add a key field to the table to make it manuall

editable outside of Enterprise Manager.

Data Driven Subscriptions in 2005 - which versions?
Does anyone know which version(s) of SQL Server 2005/reporting services will
support data driven subscriptions?
Only Enterprise (or Developer) with SQL Server 2000 which is very limiting!
Cheers,

Questions about SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services are probably best
asked on microsoft.private.sqlserver2005.reportingsvcs, which is a
public beta newsgroup, despite the name.

Data Driven Subscription Disabled
Hi All,
We are using SQL Server 2005 enterprise edition for our project with SSRS 2005.
We are not getting the Data driven subscription option enabled. That is we see the tab in Report Manager but its disabled.
We have ensured the following:
1- The server is enterprise edition with SP1
2- The users are part of local admin group on the report server
3- The report credentials are stored in the database.
Is there anything missed out?
Thank
Manish
Did you ever get an answer to this? We are having the same thing going on. Are you using integrated security or just Windows?|||I guess Data Driven Subscription button is not disabled but you're getting error message if it's pressed. Correct? Make sure your report does not contain expressions depending on user like User!UserID. See http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms156012.aspx for all DD subscription creation guidelines.
|||No, the Data Driven Subscription button is disabled. I have through the tutorial about4 times. We use the Developer edition and the SQL Server Agent is running. I have also set up the datasource as instructed.
Any other ideas?

You need to installutil the dlls for the enterprise library (this is covered
in the docs somewhere). The reason it is writing to the event log is because
the connection failed. If you setup the event log access correctly then you
will have an eventlog entry telling you why the connection failed.

As for the installation of instrumentation servcie of enterprise library
2005, I've posted some information from the enterprise lib's product
team(in your another duplicated thread in the
microsoft.public.dotnet.languages.csharp newsgroup) which include:
** how disable instrumentation of enterprise library (through custom build)
when deploy them to product environment.
** how to install the instrumentation services without vs 2003
installed(use the installUtil.exe in .net framework utilities):
For your convenience, I've pasted my reply in that thread below:

Steven Cheng

This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
=============================================Hi Mukesh,
As for the Enterprise Library(2005) for .net framework 1.1, the
instrumentation services does need to be installed separately. And the
"install services" bat file does require the VS 2003 IDE installed on the
machine. Actually this is because instrumetation feature is mainly used in
development environment. For production environment, generally we do not
use them and can disable the setting at compilation time(through some build
flags).
Therefore, for your scenario, you can consider the following options:
1. Build a product version of the enterprise library which disable the
instrumentation in the build options(some conditional compile variables).
2. Instead of using the "Install Services" bat file, use the
InstallUtil.exe utility(shipped with .net framework 1.1 rather than vs
2003) to register the instrumentation service against each enterprise
library assembly (you will use in your application).
Here is a blog article from the product manager of enterprise library
(pattern&practice team) which has provide a complete description on the
instrumentation services of Enterprise library 2005(.net 1.1) and how to
disable it in custom build or install the service without VS 2003 IDE:
#Instrumentation in Enterprise Library

DAO > SQL Server Processes
Processes - i.e. those visible in Enterprise Manager under Management
> Current Activity > Process Info.
Why?
I am experiencing strange behaviour with Processes that are created
when I create a DAO Database Object with the following line:
Set m_ResDatabase = DBEngine.Workspaces(0).OpenDatabase(strDSN, False,
False, strODBC)
This creates the process as expected.
However the following lines don't always close the ensuing Process:
If Not m_ResRecordSet Is Nothing Then
m_ResRecordSet.Close
Set m_ResRecordSet = Nothing
End If
If Not m_ResDatabase Is Nothing Then
m_ResDatabase.Close
Set m_ResDatabase = Nothing
End If
If Not m_ResWorkspace Is Nothing Then
m_ResWorkspace.Close
Set m_ResWorkspace = Nothing
End If
It seems as if SQL Server keeps hold of the first two Processes and
then will release any subsequent ones.
Can anyone shed any light in this - or any good web pages where I
might find some answers?

Do DAO have connection pooling? Modern client libraries have connection
pooling, which means that when you close a connection from the code,
the API lingers on the connection for a minute, in case you would
reconnect directly. In such case, it's perfectly normal to see the
connections around.
Else, the only reason I can think of is that you had a transaction in
progress when you closed the connections, and the rollback takes a
long time. If you vie the processes with sp_who what state and active
command do they have?

I've seen this in Access and it's a PITA as it makes changing users
impossible without restarting it, e.g. log in as "sa" then close
everything and log in as "joe", the front end thinks you are "joe" but
the back end thinks you are "sa", which can cause unpredictable results.
If it's connection pooling in place then I don't think it was
implemented right. I've seen it work the other way as well while logged
in as normal user I then try to log in as "sa" to manage users, etc and
get told I have no permission to do it.

Damaged backup file?
When I try to restore database from a specific backup file
using Enterprise Manager I get this error message:
+---+
Microsoft SQL-DMO (ODBC SQLState: HY000)
+---+
Location: recbase.cpp:1378
Expression: m_offBeginVar < m_SizeRec
SPID: 51
Process ID: 1544

[ OK ]

+---+
The backup file contains 2 files: data file and a log file.
Restoring only data file is successful, but leaves the DB
in "Loading" state. Restoring only a log file to this partialy
restored DB is unsuccessful - generates the same error as in
full restore, and leaves DB in "Loading/Suspect" state.
Backup verification (used in SQL Query Analyzer):
RESTORE VERIFYONLY
FROM DISK = '...'
returns "The backup set is valid."
Restoring with SQL Suery Analyzer using statement:
RESTORE DATABASE [db_name]
FROM DISK = '...'
gives:
Processed 2088 pages for database 'db_name', file 'xxx_Data' on file 1.
Processed 1 pages for database 'mf_test', file 'xxx_Log' on file 1.
Server: Msg 3624, Level 20, State 1, Line 1
Location: R:\sql\ntdbms\storeng\drs\include\record.inl:1447
Expression: m_SizeRec > 0 && m_SizeRec <= MAXDATAROW
SPID: 52
Process ID: 1544
Connection Broken
Is there any way to recover any data from this apparently damaged backup
file? Maybe there's a way to ignore the log file and have the DB in
usable state...

VERIFYONLY doesn't verify internal consistency of the backup. Essentially only that the file is
readable and that it is a SQL Server backup.

Yes, do only one restore, from the database backup and specify WITH RECOVERY.

Could you supply correct RESTORE statement? Cause:
RESTORE DATABASE [db_name]

I did that (a day or something about) before posting the original post (and

Damaged backup file?
When I try to restore database from a specific backup file
using Enterprise Manager I get this error message:
+---+
Microsoft SQL-DMO (ODBC SQLState: HY000)
+---+
Location: recbase.cpp:1378
Expression: m_offBeginVar < m_SizeRec
SPID: 51
Process ID: 1544

[ OK ]

+---+
The backup file contains 2 files: data file and a log file.
Restoring only data file is successful, but leaves the DB
in "Loading" state. Restoring only a log file to this partialy
restored DB is unsuccessful - generates the same error as in
full restore, and leaves DB in "Loading/Suspect" state.
Backup verification (used in SQL Query Analyzer):
RESTORE VERIFYONLY
FROM DISK = '...'
returns "The backup set is valid."
Restoring with SQL Suery Analyzer using statement:
RESTORE DATABASE [db_name]
FROM DISK = '...'
gives:
Processed 2088 pages for database 'db_name', file 'xxx_Data' on file 1.
Processed 1 pages for database 'mf_test', file 'xxx_Log' on file 1.
Server: Msg 3624, Level 20, State 1, Line 1
Location: R:\sql\ntdbms\storeng\drs\include\record.inl:1447
Expression: m_SizeRec > 0 && m_SizeRec <= MAXDATAROW
SPID: 52
Process ID: 1544
Connection Broken
Is there any way to recover any data from this apparently damaged backup
file? Maybe there's a way to ignore the log file and have the DB in
usable state...
Hilarion> Backup verification (used in SQL Query Analyzer):

VERIFYONLY doesn't verify internal consistency of the backup. Essentially only that the file is
readable and that it is a SQL Server backup.

Yes, do only one restore, from the database backup and specify WITH RECOVERY.

Could you supply correct RESTORE statement? Cause:
RESTORE DATABASE [db_name]
FROM DISK = '...'
WITH RECOVERY
gives:
Processed 2088 pages for database 'db_name', file 'xxx_Data' on file 1.
Processed 1 pages for database 'db_name', file 'xxx_Log' on file 1.

Connection Broken
RESTORE DATABASE [db_name]
FILEGROUP = 'PRIMARY'
FROM DISK = '...'
WITH RECOVERY
gives:
Server: Msg 3032, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
One or more of the options (recovery) are not supported for this statement.
Review the documentation for supported options.

Cyrstal Management Console
Once I upload my report to Crystal enterprise and i do preview of that report i can see the print button in the crystal tool bar. But once i call the report via query string from my application that print button disappears! Can some one help me with that issue! that how i can get the print button enable for the reports which are being called from query strings!
ThanksCR.EnablePrintButton=True
CR is the Crystal Report Viewer|||Thanks for the reply but.. here is the problem..
I am using URL reporting on Crystal enterprise
http://webserver/crystal/enterprise10/ePortfolio/en/viewrpt.cwr?id=10000&apsuser=user&apspassword=password&apsauthtype=secEnterprise&promptex-CompanyName=ABC Company&promptex-CompanyAddress=123 Main Street&promptex-CompanyCSZ=New Orleans LA
Is there anyway we can pass query string parameter?!
Let me know
Thanks|||I finally found the solution!!
The URL you are utilizing to interface is calling the DHTML viewer which does not include that by default. If you want to utilize the ActiveX viewer, you can try adding the "&init=actx" to the end of your querystring, however depending on how you're interfacing with the report this may or may not work. If it doesn't work (i.e. different .NET interface methods) you will need to change some parameters in the code, which I'm not sure exactly what it is but do a search on support site for the help file for Report Viewers and the full object model is listed there.
