Data Driven subscriptions stop working after multiple edits?

This has happened several times. We set up a data driven subscription and it
runs fine. We can edit it a few times and it works fine afterwards also.
But at some point after perhaps editing it 5 or 6 times it jsut stops
working. The job never fires off like it wasn't scheduled. You can delete
it and recreate it, then it works fine again. There doesn't seem to be a
concrete pattern to it. It seems like the subscription jsut becomes
corrupted or something
Has anyone encountered a problem like this?Hi,
When i had tested data driven subscriptions i had changed the schedule say
at least about 25 times or more, i had not faced any issues.
One observation i had was if the time set for the schedule is the same as
the current computer time on click finish it does not run immediately. The
schedule time should always be a future time.

it works fine. Later, however, if you edit it to re-run it you run into a
problem if the subscription is set to run on a one-time basis only. You
select "one time" as the schedule and set the time you want it to fire off.
However you can't enter a date. Instead of picking up today as the default
like it does when you first create the subscription, it keeps the same date
that you originally used when you first set it up. So if you are editing a
one-time scheduled subscription and you didn't create the subscription that
same day, the schedule you just created is already in the past and thus never
fires. You can confirm this by checking the schedule table. A workaround is
to update the table manually...
Update Schedule
Set StartDate = '2004-11-10 14:10'
Where ScheduleID = 'whatever'

Data Driven Subscriptions

Hello,
I have an installation of Reporting Services with SQL
Server 7.0 SP3. One of my reports is a data driven
subscription and it worked wonderfully.
Then, I applied Reporting Services Service Pack 1 and now
the data driven subscription does not work.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
DaveSorry, SQL Server 2000 SP3

Data driven subscription: if no report data => do not deliver

I am wondering if there is a simple way to tell the report server to not
deliver a report if there is no data in the report.
I have several reports which have table layout to display a set of data IF
there happens to be data. One example is that I have a polling process
looking at certain tables in SQL Server every 10 minutes. Is there a quick
way to not send me an e-mail if there isn't data to look at?
Thanks!
DavidCurrently there is not, although this feature has been requested several
times. The only way to do it now is to construct the Data Driven
Subscriptions query to return no rows when the report will return no rows.

I have a similar data-driven subscription. The first query determines the
receivers for email, the second query prepares the email content for the
corresponding receiver.
So as Daniel wrote, first I had to eliminate no-data records then run the
query for the remaining set.

something working. I just am looking for a more elegant/built in solution.
For data-driven subscriptions, RS requires you to specify an SQL query which
returns data to the subscription (things like what e-mails to send to, and
what parameters to pass to the actual report, if any). I exec a stor proc in
order to return this information back to my subscription. The key lies in
the stor proc being called.
The stor proc which feeds the data driven subscription ends up calling the
stor proc which returns data for the report (which in reality is completely
compartmentalized from the subscription itself). The subscription proc
checks to see if at least 1 row of data is returned by the report proc. If
the report stor proc returns no data, then the subscription stor proc returns
a NULL SET back for the e-mail addresses to deliver the report to.
I don't know if I'm capitalizing on a bug or not, but there is no error
generated in the log files. I guess the report is actually generated (with
no data) and delivered into never-never land.
Hope I explained what I'm doing clearly, but just wanted people to know
there is an interim solution, although some what cludgy.
Cheers!

the notifications returns no rows then the report will not be run for that
instance of the subscription until the next time it fires and the query
returns data.

data driven subscription with special charater in parameter

Hi all,
I have a report which takes in a name as the parameter. When I run the
report from the server manually using the name Monzón it works fine. But when
that same report runs as part of a data driven subscription, the report comes
out blank. The data source is a sql table.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

You might want to check the collation on the database that the table
resides in. I don't believe that the default collation accommodates
espa=F1ol/etc. This link should help.

You might want to change the collation of the column in the table that
contains Monz=F3n.

it in a query.
BTW. This is not the same server that is running the SRS subscription.
This seems directly related to data driven subscriptions.

Data Driven Subscription with no results

I have a data driven subscription that is set up to email and uses a sql statement to generate the delivery settings and report parameters for each recipient (so each person does not reveive one email per row in the result set). I'm told that this is a good work around for creating a subscription that will NOT fire an email if there are no results returned, however I can not seem to get this to work...it continues to send an email with a blank report if there is no data for the previous day. Any thoughts/help would be appreciated. thanks in advance!If you want a fixed recipient list you want to do the following:

Assume your report data set comes from table DataTable, Pseudo SQL:
select Top 1 * from DataTable where InsertDate >= DATEADD(day, -1, GETDATE())

This will return exactly one row (one delivery) anytime there is data to report on. If you have multiple data sets in your report you'll need to play with the Joins to get this behavior.

Then in your subscription in the TO field, provide the static list of recipients.

If you need a dynamic list of recipients, I'd write a stored proc that returns the list of recipients if there was data in the DataTable, or no rows if there wasn't.

data driven subscription when data changes

Is it possible to create a data driven subscription only when new data is added to the table. Say in the morning there are 10 records and added later are another 20-- I already have a report for the inital 10 and I want another to send out the new 20

thanks in advance

Hi,

data driven subscription is to dynamically create a list of recipients.

event driven subscription should not be confused with it.

There are different ways to do event driven subscriptions, from hard core programming to leverage of tools on hands. Try harder to search this forum, you will find plenty of articles about this subject.

Data Driven Subscription Query Parameters

Does anyone know if its possible to use report parameters as
parameters to a data driven subscription query. This would be useful
for changing the names of the files generated by the subscription
according to the parameters passed to the report.
For example, a report that takes a customer name as a parameter could
pass the customer name through to the data driven subscription query.
This would allow the customer name to be included in the file name of
the file that the data driven subscription generates.
Cheers,
David.In the parameters page, you are able to do a select statement & assign
parameters based on that.
So you could do a select * From names
Assuming your names table has a name field, then you could use the name &
field to assign it to a "file name".

data driven subscription. What I dont know is whether you can change
the file name based on the value of a report parameter.
Say I had a report with a parameter of customer name. If someone
created a data driven subscription and specified a customer of
customer1 for the customer name. I would like to be able to generate a
file name like "customer1_09-11-2004.csv".
I guess you would need to pass the customer name as the where clause
to the "select * from names" query mentioned below.
Is this possible.
Cheers,
David.

Data driven subscription printing problem

Hi
I installed the printer delivery sample.When i tried to set up
the data driven subscription with delivery mode as printing to a
specific printer.I am getting error.
Done: 2 processed of 2 total; 2 errors.
When i set it as an email.Its working.I am getting email.I could
successfully set up the printer.I did not get any error.In the log
files i dont see any explanation.Is there any setup we have to tell
for printer delivery also log the information.
Thanks
vkvWhen you say you "successfully set up the printer", under which identity did
you set it up? Under what identity is the subscription job running?
Or do you just mean you "successfully told the Reporting Services
configuration about it in its XML file"? In which case, read my first
paragraph again <g>.

Are you seeing anything in the log related to this extension at all (in case
you are looking in the wrong log)?
I looked briefly at the code and it looks like it logs all the time.

Your report subscription job is not running under your identity, probably,
and the printer, while installed on the server, is not accessible to the
identity under which that job is running.
The first thing I would do is check to see who has rights to print to that
printer.
This is a common problem with code running in web server apps FWIW... it's
not something I know about specifically to do with Reporting Services, but
it is a common problem for code running under a service account. Check the
account and check if it has rights to print to that (or any!) printer.

Now take a look at the ValidateUserData stuff -- I think it will show you

vkv|||I don't quite understand what you mean. As far as I can see there is no
need for the extension code to set a font size. It is not printing text.
It is printing a page image which is handed to it as a metafile.
deviceInfo = String.Format(
System.Globalization.CultureInfo.InvariantCulture,
@."<DeviceInfo><OutputFormat>{0}</OutputFormat><PageHeight>{1}</PageHeight><PageWidth>{2}</PageWidth></DeviceInfo>",
"emf", pageHeight, pageWidth);
// Render report
m_files = notification.Report.Render("IMAGE", deviceInfo);
The font information all comes from the report as rendered by engine code --
the extension isn't sitting around figuring out line height, etc .
The extension only "sees" an image which it proceeds to deliver to the
printer. Why would it pay attention to the printer settings for font
information? Maybe I'm misunderstanding your question...

You said:
>>When i print the report from the reportmanager directly i see the font
>>that i set.
So I asked: Where did you set the font? In the report or the printer
setup?
>>i saw other post.that user also complaining about the image that is
>>rendering to the report
I'm not sure which other post you're referring to, but if it's the "printer
delivery sample" thread, it only confirms what I already told you:
This sample extension is printing from an EMF that they get from the engine,
not rendering text. In no way would the sample code, printing an image, be
handling fonts if it is printing a page image. However, the sample code is
not necessarily sizing the image properly, which might look like a font size
issue.
Look: "sizing the image properly" is a non-trivial task. The sample code
has some code stubbed in to decide whether the printer you want to use can
handle the size of the page that the report has been set to, IOW whether
that page size is *valid* on the printer you want. You have commented out
that code right now, I know. But that validation *has* to be done, and is a
small part of the non-trivial task.
The extension code cannot repaginate. It has to decide what to do with the
rendered pages, which were rendered with a certain page size and -- more
significantly -- a certain height to width ratio.
>>I dont know wat to do and how to approach
To handle this task properly:
We know that the report page is already rendered, with a certain height to
width ratio, by the time the extension gets ahold of it. Now the extension
has to decide how to handle any *difference* between the original aspect
ratio and page size and what is available in the user's specified printer
setup.
There are several options the extension has in this situation, and IMHO it
actually should let the user decide which is the best one to use before
proceeding:
* -- scale the EMF and stretch to exactly fit the available page size and
its aspect ratio, even if it might be inappropriate for the current page
aspect ratio as set by the user's chosen printer
* -- scale the EMF but keep the original aspect ratio, fixing the larger of
the two original dimensions to fit the available space and leaving some
white space on the smaller one
* -- scale the EMF but keep the original aspect ratio, fixing the smaller of
the two original dimensions to fit the available space and clipping off
whatever part of the larger one doesn't fit
* -- don't scale the EMF at all -- meaning sometimes you'll have extra
space, more often the page will get clipped in one or both dimensions, but
the aspect ratio and the original intent of the page, as designed in the
report layout, is preserved with fidelity.
Once you have gone this far down the path, and allowed the user a chance to
decide how to handle the current report, you can then add a bunch of other
possibilities, including printing multiple page images per paper page. (I'm
sure you've seen this option in printer driver options, right? Printing two
pages per page, or four pages per page, or whatever? This is how it works.
You have to do the math a little differently than one page per page, but
it's the same basic problem.)
I haven't actually looked to see which decision about scaling the extension
makes. I don't know if there is any dynamic intelligence in the sample code
to handle best-case by comparing the user page size and the original page
size or if it always makes the same decision.
My point here: to approach the problem properly, think about the sizing and
stretching cases above, and how they might play out in your situation. Look
at the sample code to see how it sends the image to the printer.
When you do, you may find (as I believe) that what is going on has NOTHING
to do with "font size" and EVERYTHING to do with image scaling.
If I'm wrong, and it really *does* have to do with font size, then one has
to ask: where did you set the font size that you say the report manager is
respecting but the extension is not?

Thanks
vkv|||Well, I guess I'm glad you told me because it went right in my spam...
... please don't do this again (anybody) unless I ask you to ...
Since you did it this time: It seems pretty clear from the two PDFs that you
sent that what I'm saying is correct: It is an image scaling problem, not a
font size problem.
I know that you don't want an 8.5 x 11 page. But your PDF from the report
manager *is* 8.5 x 11. (look at the properties) I am not sure what the
original report is designed to be but when you scanned the printout and sent
it to a PDF, somewhere along the line it scaled it to 8.5 x11. Do you
understand what I am saying? Somewhere along the line somebody used an
algorithm similar to what I'm saying you have to do.
But the printer extension sample code doesn't do this same thing. You would
have to do it in an adaptation of that code.
In my last message I told you pretty much what decisions have to be made to
scale an image properly. I can't make the choice for you about which case
or which algorithm fits your needs. Even if you wanted to limit it to one
simple case, that case depends on the relationship of the original page size
to the page size you are looking for.
If I were going to write this production-grade/generically, I would try to
cover at least the 4 cases I described to you, and then allow the user some
scaling options, asking which case they wanted for this report. It's not
something you solve one way for every set of page size ratios.
And I don't think that my existing code would help you very much. It's not
.NET code.
But here is pseudocode to show you how you work out the basic problem:
I suspect the overload for doing the drawing is this one:
public void EnumerateMetafile (
Metafile metafile,
Rectangle destRect,
EnumerateMetafileProc callback
)
... IOW, you have to tell the metafile image where it should go, what space
to fill, even if it is going to get stretched or shrunk. (This is pretty
much what IE and Adobe Reader etc do when they offer a "shrink to fit"
option for printing.)
In the simplest case, if you just want to fill the new page size and you
don't care of the new aspect ratio matches the old one, you just set that
destRec to the size of the user-designated (subscription) page size.
(I will skip the part where you interrogate the current printer to find out
what its actual printable page size is like since most printers don't print
all the way to the boundaries of the paper... Sigh. That part probably
applies to all cases.)
IAC, just setting that rectangle to the new page size is not the only or
best way to do it if you want to preserve the aspect ratio of the original
page.
This is something like showing a widescreen film on 4.3 TV. The one thing
you generally *don't* want to do is fill both dimensions and show the
picture stretched to an incorrect aspect ratio, because it looks silly,
everything is out of proportion. OK?
So, how should the film be shown? You have to decide whether you want to fit
the width and have some extra space at the top and/or bottom, or fit the
height and cut off some on each side, etc. Same goes for a widescreen TV
and a "regular" TV show that is broadcase in 4.3. There are several
possible cases, all of which are relevant here. You have no control: the
original page might be landscape while the new page is portrait or the other
way around, you're looking for the best fit in each situation.
So, how you do it: you can figure out the difference between page sizes
(rendered and subscription page) and the approach you will take when you get
ready to print the first page.
You should see a line that looks like this in the code:
// Load the metafile image for this page
m_metafile = new Metafile(m_currentPageStream);
A metafile image is being loaded for each page. On the first page, when you
start the job, you can interrogate this image for its size.
m_originalWidth = m_metafile.Width
m_originalHeight = m_metafile.Height
... with me so far?
Now you have to do the math. You can compare that image's aspect ratio with
the one your user has provided for the page size they want, in the settings
array (SubscriptionData.PAGEHEIGHT/SubscriptionData.PAGEWIDTH), and make any
necessary adjustments in the destRect.
You could start by trying to fill the new Width completely. You know the
original Width and its relationship to the new subscription page width. The
new height has to be the same percentage of the original
m_metafile.Height -- whether bigger or smaller -- as the new width is of the
original Width. That's how the aspect ratio stays correct.
So now you have a possible new height for your destRect. Is that new height
bigger than the available height of the subscription page? Then try it the
other way around: try filling the Height and seeing if you can get the
Width to fit.
(There are ways to decide which to try first, I'm skipping all that. The
result is the same no matter how smart or dumb you make the code.)
If you can't get both dimensions to fit on the page, try cutting down both
dimensions by some percentage (say, 5%) and try again.
I hope you're starting to see what I'm talking about.
See... ** THEY WROTE A SAMPLE **. It's not production-grade. What else
can I say.

start.My fault for sending the email.
I have to make this printer delivery for only this report,so i can
make any changes which fits this report.Thats atleast good part.I dont
have to write generalize code.For this report i am intended to print
8.5 * 11.
As you suggested earlier on this point
* -- scale the EMF and stretch to exactly fit the available page size
and
its aspect ratio, even if it might be inappropriate for the current
page
aspect ratio as set by the user's chosen printer
-- Scale emf means dealing with resolution ' If it is meant
resolution Metafile resolution properties are read only.
And on the Suggestion
You should see a line that looks like this in the code:
// Load the metafile image for this page
m_metafile = new Metafile(m_currentPageStream);
A metafile image is being loaded for each page. On the first page,
when you
start the job, you can interrogate this image for its size.
m_originalWidth = m_metafile.Width
m_originalHeight = m_metafile.Height
There is no line of code like this,but the kept those lines and found
out that width is 817 and height is 1057.
I changed the dest where it has to print from Point destPoint = new
Point(0, 0); to Point destPoint = new Point(-35, -30); There is
little bit improvement on the both horizontal and vertical positions.
I am thinking the only way to get this right is reduce the
resolution.Am i going in right direction.
You are right that it is only a sample.I should extend to make it
compatible for my purpose.
Thanks for giving replies.

vkv|||Yup -- that will work for your simple case. I'm glad for you!
The reason I gave you the additional, generic information is to explain why
it is hard to do this, for you and for other people reading. <s>
IOW: I would like to help folks here understand why they didn't "just add
the little bit of extra code to make the sample more robust". The answer is

Caveat: I really don't understand why they didn't use the overload of
EnumerateMetafileProc that I suggested and that you have used
successfully -- that *would* have been a "little bit of code" and would have
pointed people in the right direction... following that same little bit of
help from me you did just fine! <s>.
To answer something in your other message -- although resolution of the
*EMF* is readonly, we're not adjusting resolution of the EMF (the source).
We are adjusting the dimensions to which the image is being rendered to the
printer (the target). This might be just another way of saying that we need
to adjust the resolution of the *target* but you don't really need to think
it. I think you now understand this, but I want to make sure everybody
reading does.
Also, yes, there was no line of code like this:
m_originalWidth = m_metafile.Width
m_originalHeight = m_metafile.Height
<<
That was code I was suggesting that you *add* after the line in the code
loading the metafile. You do not need to do it in the non-generic case,
but I was suggesting that if one were writing this generically, one would
take those values when interrogating that first image and save them to
member properties. Then they are available to use in math as required.
There are scenarios in which one has to re-evaluate them again after the
first page (which, again, do not concern you at the moment).

Ha Ha !!!
Wasnt expecting it to be so easy
insted of passing the point pass a rectangle ...
Rectangle destRect = new Rectangle(0, 0, m_metafile.Width ,
m_metafile.Height);
graphics.EnumerateMetafile(m_metafile, destRect, m_delegate);
// the original code in the example is passing a point as aopposed to
the rectangle.

The Reason for the difference in the font size is because of scaling.
All you need to do is to modify two lines of code.
in the ReportDrawPage method insted of passing a Point object to the
EnumerateMetafile method pass a rectangle as shown below...
private void ReportDrawPage(Graphics graphics)
{
.....
Rectangle destRect = new Rectangle(0, 0, m_metafile.Width ,
m_metafile.Height);
graphics.EnumerateMetafile(m_metafile, destRect, m_delegate);

Data Driven Subscription or Notification Services or both

I have read all the latest data driven subscription info and seen posts
referring people to use Notification Services in some instances. Here is my
question:
I want to automatically send an email with an attached SQL Reporting
SErvices Report to a client if they submit a new order request. The client
submitts an order request that generates a new record in an SQL database that
has a Reporting Services Report that can pull up that order/invoice. I want
to automatically send that user an email with the attached report or the
report right in the email.
Can I do this with a data driven ubscription or with Notification Services?
Can I set up Notification services to send out the SQL Reporting Serives
Report based on the new record?
If I need to be in another group please elt me know.
I can do this in either SQL 2000 or 2005 depending on your answers.
thanks in advance for your assistance.
--
Jeanne Conde, MCPHi Jeanne,
My suggestion is to use trigger that calls RS to produce and send
report to the user when new record is inserted.
I am not sure wether it is really related to data driven subscription
at all. it would be more like single report for each new record event.
It will work for any SQL versions.
Hope this helped.

Data Driven subscription not working for PDF, IMAGE

Hi,
I worked on SQL Server tutorials in Books online, "Data Driven
Subscription". In this tutorial, reports are delivered via email on a
scheduled time. as per the tutorial emails are being delivered in "MHTML"
format but it does not deliver the report in "PDF" or "Image" format. The
report manager shows a status message that there was an error but there is
no way to know the exact error. It just says "1 errors". The reprot is
working absolutely fine as it is being delivered in "MHTML" format but not
in "PDF" or "IMAGE". Please assist.
Regards
GinnyJust check in errorlog file for any specific errors. Just manually run the
same report and see whether it gives the same error.

Data Driven Subscription Not Available

I am trying to create a data driven subscription. However, on the
Subscriptions tab for the reports the New Data-Driven Subscription selection
is not present. Only the New Subscription selection is present. I can
create regular subscriptions but need to create a data driven subscription.
Is there something in the config file that needs changed to enable data
driven subscriptions?Do you have Standard or Enterprise. Data driven subscriptions is a
Enterprise feature.

data driven subscription not available

Hi,
I am trying to create a data driven subscription. I have stored the
credentials and custom data source in the report. My account has site
administrator and content manager permissions, yet the "New Data Driven
Subscription" button is not available. I have multiple reports like this.
Any ideas?

For us the only thing we need EE for is the data driven subscriptions and I
can't get the boss to come off the hip with 10x the money for that one
feature.
I am going to try and write some code to run reports from the reporting
server using .net and sql statements.

Data Driven Subscription multi-line email content

I am trying to set up a data driven subscription where one of the fields
returned from the query is sent as the content of the email.
This works fine for a one line email by selecting that column in the
Comment field of the delivery extension screen but I need to create a
multi-line email.
I have tried storing the field with CHAR(13) & CHAR(10) separators in the
table but it still displays on one line when RS sends the email.
Does anyone know if this is possible and how I can achieve it ?The comment can be HTML. So make the comment use html to render on multiple
lines.

Data Driven Subscription Help

Hello all,

I am trying to schedule an MDX report to run once a week and it only works if I pass one parameter per field.It would fail every time I try to pass multiple parameters.Do you know if there is way to pass multiple MDX parameters?

The parameter field is set as multi-value field.

This worked –

'[Dim Travel Product].[Dim Travel Product].&[67]'

This failed –

'[Dim Travel Product].[Dim Travel Product].&[67], [Dim Travel Product].[Dim Travel Product].&[70], [Dim Travel Product].[Dim Travel Product].&[69]'

This failed -

'[Dim Travel Product].[Dim Travel Product].&[67]&[69]&[70]'

Could you post the MDX statement into which the parameters are being passed?

Thanks,
Bryan

|||

The parameter is passed to @.TravelProduct:

SET [Dim Travel Product Set] AS StrToSet(@.TravelProduct)

MEMBER [Dim Travel Product].[Dim Travel Product].[Travel Product Subset] AS 'Aggregate([Dim Travel Product Set])'

Thanks in advance!

|||It also works if i were to run this manually and select multiple parameters. The problem is I don't know the proper syntax of what's being passed when there are multiple selections.

|||

Enclose the list of members inside { } when passing multiple members.

|||

None of the below syntax works:

'{[Dim Travel Product].[Dim Travel Product].&[4]&[5]&[7]}'

'{[Dim Travel Product].[Dim Travel Product].&[4], [Dim Travel Product].[Dim Travel Product].&[5], [Dim Travel Product].[Dim Travel Product].&[7]}'

This is the method that I am using to pass the parameter:

So this is still working:

SELECT CONVERT(char(10),DateAdd(dd, -1 - (DatePart(dw, getdate()) - 2), getdate()),101) as Sunday,
'[Dim Travel Product].[Dim Travel Product].&[4]' as TravProd,
'[Dim Car Vendor].[Car Vendor Desc].[All]' as Vendor

This does not work:

SELECT CONVERT(char(10),DateAdd(dd, -1 - (DatePart(dw, getdate()) - 2), getdate()),101) as Sunday,
'{[Dim Travel Product].[Dim Travel Product].&[4], [Dim Travel Product].[Dim Travel Product].&[5], [Dim Travel Product].[Dim Travel Product].&[7]}' as TravProd,
'[Dim Car Vendor].[Car Vendor Desc].[All]' as Vendor

This does not work:

SELECT CONVERT(char(10),DateAdd(dd, -1 - (DatePart(dw, getdate()) - 2), getdate()),101) as Sunday,
'{[Dim Travel Product].[Dim Travel Product].&[4]&[5]&[7]}' as TravProd,
'[Dim Car Vendor].[Car Vendor Desc].[All]' as Vendor

|||

Take a look at this. It works against Adventure Works:

Code Snippet

select

[Date].[Date].[July 1, 2003] on 0,

strtoset("{[Product].[Category].[Bikes],[Product].[Category].[Clothing]}") on 1

from [Adventure Works]

B.|||

What I am trying to do is pass the @.TravelProduct from a Data Driven Subscription in Reporting Services and schedule it to run once a week. The select statement that I built contains all my filters, but when I add more than one filter for a particular field, it errors.

Thanks!

|||

What my code illustrates is how the MDX must be constructed to support multiple values from a parameter. You need to use STRTOSET, you need to wrap that comma delimited list of set members in curly braces, and that set string needs to be wrapped in double-quotes. If you've got all that in place, you can use a parameter in SSRS supply the set of members. The trick is getting your MDX in order to be able to work with the value from the parameter.

B.

|||

Thanks! I'll try that later today and report back.

|||

I tried what Bryan did above but it is still not working. ;(

sql

data driven subscription does not work

I defined a data driven subscription based on a query which returns a list of compagnies (90). For each one, the subcription has to fire a report which extracts the order for the compagny.

After lauching the subcription (apply button , the subscription status is Processed 0 for 90, 0 errors

I do not get any error message.

The report works fine via a subscription base on calendar (with a compagny by default), but not via the data driven subcription.

What could be the reason of this pb ?

By advance thanks

Georges

DId you have a look in the log files ? If the information gven there is not sufficient you can turn on verbose logging, which can be either turned on via the GUI (in SQL Server 2005) or by edition the .config file.

Also make sure that you retrieval process / query doesn′t create any locks on the table.

|||In the data driven subscriptions, are you sure that you have all boolean values which are configurable through the query of the datasource set to either true or false ? Otherwise the reporting service can not convert if you map the "Include Report" property to "SomeCustomerNameValue". You have to make sure that the data is consistent through all your available data, otherwise it can be that the subscriptions breaks.

This is the query I defined. The only parameter I pass to the report is companyname. The others are defined via the subcription tab (path, report name, user, password ...)

Is my query not correct ? How can I find the wrong parameter ?

My query :

select companyname from customers

Hi,

the query seems ok, perhaps you check the other settings which might be not set all appropiate. But I hope you don′t you the companyname in a column / property of the scheduled report which expects a boolean value.

Data Driven Subscription Disabled

Hi All,

We are using SQL Server 2005 enterprise edition for our project with SSRS 2005.

We are not getting the Data driven subscription option enabled. That is we see the tab in Report Manager but its disabled.

We have ensured the following:

1- The server is enterprise edition with SP1

2- The users are part of local admin group on the report server

3- The report credentials are stored in the database.

Is there anything missed out?

Thank

Manish

Did you ever get an answer to this? We are having the same thing going on. Are you using integrated security or just Windows?|||

I guess Data Driven Subscription button is not disabled but you're getting error message if it's pressed. Correct? Make sure your report does not contain expressions depending on user like User!UserID. See http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms156012.aspx for all DD subscription creation guidelines.

|||

No, the Data Driven Subscription button is disabled. I have through the tutorial about4 times. We use the Developer edition and the SQL Server Agent is running. I have also set up the datasource as instructed.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

SP

|||

I know we installed the Developer edition, but when I use select @.@.version, it says only standard edition. We installed it through the MSDN subscription CD Disc 3097.1

Is there another way to tell what version you have?

data driven subscription & User id

I have a report that makes use of the global user id parameter. I was going
to set it up as a data driven subscription but as long as I have that
parameter in the report ... the option to schedule that report is not even
allowed. Why is that?Because who is the user when it is scheduled? The userid is the person
requesting the report to run. This makes no sense when scheduling.
The user id is not who is viewing it (which makes sense because you can use
the userid as a query parameter so you have to know who the user is prior to
retrieving the data).

report is needed to run both interactively and in a batch mode (which we are
using data driven subscriptions for). So the code that has the user_id parm
is mainly for interactive use. I was wondering if there might be a way to
avoid having to create 2 separate reports ... one for interactive and one for
batch. The interactive uses the user_id to force the initiation of the
report from a portal user interface (which puts an entry into a table when
initiated and contains user_id and what client user is running the report for
- this is handled by security code contained in the UI) That way if the url
is copied and pasted into a browser and someone else tries to run the report
... it will fail because there will not be an entry created by the UI to
match the user_id of the person running the report (unless it is the same
person who just ran it ;-) ) Anyway ... the desire to run this report in
a batch fashion came along later ... and it wont work for obvious reasons.
Is there an easy way to disregard the dataset that reads a table using the
user_id? It seems that just having that parameter in the report disagrees
with reporting services ... it doesnt care if there is logic to disregard it
. I'll have to give this some more thought ... but just wondering if you
have run into other situations where a report needed security for online ...
but wanted to disregard that for a batch run. Thanks,

Are you assigning it to a report parameter? You can use it without first
assigning it to a report parameter. I think if you use it as a query
parameter you will need to run a test and find out what value it has when
run as a subscription then use an expression that substitutes whatever makes
sense.
As a test do this: Create a report with no dataset. Just a textbox set to an
expression and the value of the expression set to
=User!UserID.Value
Run the report both interactively and as a subscription and see what you
get. Then wherever you need it use an expression and an if statement.
