Data Driven Subscriptions

Is it possible to copy an existing Data Driven Subscriptions and make some minor changes?

Elias

I do not think so.

Thanks,

Data Dictionary

In SQL 2000 is there a way to generate a data dictionary of an existing data
base? If so how do you go about doing it? In Access it has a documenter that
will create one for you. ThanksSQL doesn't really have a tool like that, but there are a couple of things
you might do.
1. Right click a database in SQL Enterprise manager -> all tasks -> generate
Sql script...
2. Go to metadata in Enterprise Manager (under Data transformation services)
and import metdata...
Neither is really what you are looking for I suspect

Data conversion inserting to DB2 on AS400 with SSIS

I created a SSIS package moving data from a SQL 2005 table to an existing DB2 table on AS400 using Microsoft OLE DB Provider for DB2.

When the package was run, it showed that rows were successfully inserted to DB2. However, the data didn't seem to be converted correctly. Most of the string values were inserted as unusual characters. Also any string values of digits were not inserted.

For example, 1.) a character field (char(1) or nchar(1) as I have tried both types) in SQL 2005 table with a simple value of 'H' was inserted into the DB2 table field of type "A" (alphanumeric) of length 1 as '?' and others letters were inserted as other unusual characters. 2.) A string value of '00100' in SQL Server is not inserted to DB2 table at all.

Later we found that the fields inserted with usual characters are difined as CSSID =65535. A few fields with correct data inserted have CSSID=00037.

Does anyone know why this happened and how to solve this to get the data inserted correctly in the DB2 table?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Try to set the appropriate LocaleID and DefaultCodePage on your destination component.

Thanks.

|||

The LocaleID and DefaultCodePage were set correctly.

What I found was in the Data Link Properties of connection manager, the "Host CCSID" was set to "OEM - United States [437]". I changed it to "EBCDIC - US/Canada [37]" and it started working perfectly.

Thank you for your suggestion though.

Data Conversion Errors on Excel Import into existing table

Recently installed Sql Server 2005 client and am now attempting to import data from a spreadsheet into an existing table. This works fine with Sql Server 2000 but I am getting data conversion truncation errors that stop the process when this runs using import utility in Sql Server 2005.

Any help would be appreciated.

More information needed.

Why is it failing? What does the error message say?

You will need to open up the package and edit it to do the conversions that you require.

Data Base Diagrams ...

Hi,

I am relatively new to SQL 2005.
How do I create the Data Base diagrams of my existing data base in SQL 2005 ?

Thanks,
Abhijit Sinha

Using Management Studio, in Object Explorer, expand the database in the left pane.

Then right-click on [Database Diagrams] and select [New Database Diagram].

Follow the instructions.

|||Hey Arnie !

I think I should have been more specific. The data base I am talking about was created in SQL 2000. I am using SQL 2005 to view it. I need to create the DB diagrams from SQL 2005. When I right click on DB diagrams, all I get is
1. Working with SQL 2000 data base diagrams
2. Refresh

Clicking on option 1 takes me to the SQL help section which basically tells me that
"SQL Server Management Studio cannot work with SQL Server 2000 diagrams. Use SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Manager instead."

I was wondering if there is any work-around to this issue as I don't have SQL 2000 installed on my system.

Thanks,
Abhijit Sinha
|||OK, lets by a bit more specific.

YOu have a SQL Server SSMS 2005 Gui to manage your server, but you are administering a SQL Server 2000 with it. Then you cannot create a diagram on the SQL Server 2000. You will have to install Enterprise Manager 2000.

Damn! SQLServer2000 can't add a NOT NULL COLUMN even in one empty existing table!

Damn! SQLServer2000 can't add a NOT NULL COLUMN even in one empty
existing table!
That is, A is the existing table and it is emtpy, I want to add one NOT
NULL COLUMN (col_new) to A using following T-SQL statement, then it
will fail.

ALTER TABLE A ADD
col_new varchar(600) NOT NULL
GO

You should change it to these statements in SQLServer2000:

ALTER TABLE A ADD
col_new varchar(600) NULL
ALTER TABLE A ALTER COLUMN col_new varchar(600) NOT NULL
GO

ah, ridiculous! right?

Fortunately, this stupid behavior is changed in SQLServer2005. The
first T-SQL statements works.Hi,

You can use a workaround in this case... Put a DEFAULT constraint on
your column and it will work...

CXPACKET error related to MOM process

While MOM processes are running at some point, a process goes into deadlock and uses up all existing CPUs.

Sysprocesses shows this it opened up 4 threads and program name is Microsoft? Reliability Analysis Service.

Profiler doesn't show which command it was trying to execute, but last notable command which has started was MRAS_pcLoad EXECUTE @.i_Return_Code = sp_getapplock @.Resource = N'MOM.Datawarehousing.DTSPackageGenerator.exe', @.LockMode = N'Exclusive', @.LockOwner = N'Session', @.LockTimeout =

Can you please help us, what could be the problem. It has been running fine till couple of days back.

--Prabhu

are you running sql2k or sql2k5? Try lowering the "degree of parallelism" (sp_configure 'max degree of parallelism', #) or using Maxdop query hint (maxdop=1) to relief the problem.

Consider updating to latest service pack if you haven't done so.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/293232

|||

It's SQL 2K, we are running on latest service pack, version 8.00.2187.

I decreased the degree of parallelism to 3 processors, instead of 4 (MAX, in this case), now all these 3 are pegged. I couldn't use the qry hint, as I mentioned it is running DTS executable.

--Prabhu

|||

If max degree parallelism is set to either zero (0) or greater than one (1), you'd still encounter parallelism issue. Try setting it to one (1) to see if it helps.

|||

In that case, not more than one processor would be used for parallelism, meaning no parallelism for qry execution. Right?

We would like to make use of all existing processors for qry parallelism, too.

--Prabhu

|||

That's correct. If you set 'max degree parallelism' you set it for the entire server. Thus, every query will be affected by this.

The only other option is to use query hint maxdop which affects only that query, but you've already said you can't change that.
